Athletic Training
One of the most effective steps an organization can take to ensure the health and safety of athletic participants is to have a Certified Athletic Trainer present during competition. Athletic Trainers evaluate and treat orthopedic injuries, care for wounds, and assess and refer concussions, heat illness, and other severe issues both on the field and clinically.
I provide on-site athletic training coverage at sporting events locally in Central Oregon:
$40 per hour (Central Oregon)
“I have worked with many athletic trainers over the course of my coaching career and have seen many different styles and approaches to athletic training. My experience working with Ross has made my job easier. His knowledge in the field is unquestioned and has stood out to me from the beginning. Being a coach himself, he understands what we go through and wants to collaborate with our staff to best serve our team. Head coaches need to have a good relationship and communication with their athletic trainer and we partner together to best support our players. Ross listens to our athletes; they trust his diagnoses and his treatments to ensure a safe and quick return. Ross is continually educating himself on new treatments and looking for better ways for our athletes to train to achieve their best performance. He takes the lead to make sure that our players, parents, medical support team, and our coaches are working together for the best outcome of the student. His approach to every aspect of being an athletic trainer is outstanding and I hope I am able to work with him for many years to come.”

“Prior to working with Ross, I was afraid to load my spine due to a previous back injury that inhibited me from playing collegiate basketball. My physician told me at 18 years old that loading my spine would compromise it, so I stopped deadlifting and squatting due to fear of re-injury. Ross told me he could help me when I was in Idaho for the summer, and although I was nervous, he gave me the confidence to try.
Working with Ross was so empowering because he showed me how to get stronger without compromising my spine or increasing my fear of these movements. What makes him different from other coaches is his extensive background across multiple domains, all aiming to improve performance. His knowledge allows him to fix faulty movement patterns and build from the foundation prior to loading. He knows how to personalize training plans and give the perfect cue that allowed me to really feel the proper movement pattern. He is a FANTASTIC coach, and I wish I could train with him more regularly. I truly trust his expertise and enjoy his sense of humor! I would highly recommend training with Ross, especially if you have any injury concerns because he will put you at ease. No matter what your age or skill level is, Ross will get you where you want to be!”

“I want to express my deepest thanks for the countless hours Ross spent working with our girls. It took a lot of perseverance working with the staff and team to schedule available times in our weight room where Ross provided valuable strength and conditioning coaching and injury prevention programming. When there were injuries (thankfully far fewer than there would have been without Ross’ services), Ross was able to handle anything that came his way promptly, professionally, and with up-front communication. The girls were comfortable going to Ross to receive treatment and to train in a weight room that now thrives with athletes that believe in what he has taught them. Ross created a lasting culture here at Troy and we are better for it.”

“As the mother of a student-athlete and the President of the Troy Volunteer Ambulance Crew, I am grateful to have had Ross available to work with our students. Ross’ worked with my son through a hip flexor injury during track season his 10th-grade year. Not only did he assist him with treatment and rehabilitation, but helped him remain competitive enough to attend the Idaho State Championships. Having access to this type of resource on our high school campus was incredibly valuable to us as parents. Not only would outside resources have been cost-prohibitive, but they would not have been as well integrated into the daily training/practice schedules of our student-athletes.
As President of the Troy Volunteer Ambulance Crew, I can say that having Ross and his students on site has been a real game-changer! The Athletic Training program no only prevented unnecessary emergency transports, but also provided excellent head injury screening and assessment for our student-athletes. Having Ross as an Athletic Trainer available for first-line triage and treatment aided our department tremendously. However, when emergency transport was necessary, our two programs worked well together as we had conducted training sessions to practice patient immobilization as a team. Thankfully, emergencies don’t arise often, but when they did, I was proud of the collective teamwork exhibited by our crew and Ross and his students.”

“I started training with Ross two years ago when I began running post-collegiately. In college, I struggled with many back issues which had caused decreased mobility throughout my body. Now, two years later with Ross' assistance, I have increased my overall mobility which has helped me become a better and healthier athlete. Ross has worked with a variety of populations and his knowledge extends past just strength training, as he has coached and worked as an athletic trainer at all levels. Ross is the best!”

“Ross is an incredible teacher and a true guru when it comes to lifting technique and injury prevention! Before working with him, I had multiple strength deficiencies and nagging injuries that kept me from running consistently. After following his plan and learning proper technique, I was able to build strength and become a more efficient runner. These two areas helped me to train with the little interruption and was definitely instrumental in helping me to achieve several personal bests on the track.”

Post-collegiate Track and Field Athlete
“Ross has been my strength coach and athletic trainer for the past three years. I credit him for teaching proper technique and prescribing appropriate training to prevent injury. I partnered with Ross in the Fall of 2018 and Spring of 2019 as I coached high school cross country and track and field teams. Ross served as our AT and S&C coach. He deserves much credit for our girls' runner-up finish at the XC State meet and for the multiple individual successes experienced throughout the Track and Field season. Ross is a great teacher who can wisely draw from his abundance of knowledge and experience. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with an outstanding and effective professional who is an expert in his field.”

“We have the luxury of a very deep team and we had been fortunate to avoid any significant injuries in the 2019 season. Athletes returning to play at an accelerated pace has not been something we’ve had to experience until when it mattered most… Playoffs.
Our senior center midfielder was an instrumental piece to our team’s success over the course of his 4-year career. Unfortunately, he suffered a hamstring strain two days prior to our first-round playoff game in 2019. Ross immediately jumped in and gave us an honest assessment of the injury and strategies to deal with it moving forward. Ross dove into treatment and advised that our center mid could play in our first-round game but if we could afford to rest him that he would be in a much better place physically with a few more days of treatment and recovery. Ross prepared him for our first-round game just in case and stayed with him throughout the game monitoring his warm-up and readiness, however, we, fortunately, did not need him and advanced. Ross continued to treat and rehabilitate daily and our starting center mid was able to return for our second-round playoff match and went on to play full minutes in both the state semi-finals and finals.
Thanks, Ross for helping get my son back on the field and making his final run with the boys so memorable.”

“Ross has undeniably transformed the culture of Troy athletics. As a volleyball coach I am so grateful for all of the time and effort Ross put in to help my volleyball players get better. Not only would he sacrifice his time during practice and our home games, but he would often come in at the break of dawn to help us prepare before we left for all day tournaments.
Ross always went out of his way to make sure my volleyball players had the best care which allowed me to focus on the specifics of coaching. I was always amazed at how hard he worked and how he would always put in extra time. I was also grateful for his attention to detail. If he did not quite know what was going on with an athlete, he would often study until he knew how to solve the issue.
As a parent I am grateful for how he always went above and beyond to help my son and daughter with not only their nagging injuries, but in taking the time to talk with them individually about life goals and what to look forward to in the future as students and athletes.
Ross is a valuable asset and excellent resource and we are grateful for everything he has done at our school.”

“It has been incredible having Ross as part of our program. Through his help, the number of athletes missing meets due to injury is down and performances are up. As a coach, it is so nice to be able to focus on improving track and field technique and fitness and not having to spend my time worrying about injury diagnosis. Before Ross came to Troy I would spend time at nearly every practice hearing “Coach my <insert whatever body part> hurts and then would have to play 20 questions to sort out if they were injured, or just sore, if they needed to push through, rest, or see a medical professional. Having a medical professional on staff makes it easy. I just send them to Ross. They got the care they needed and I got back to coaching knowing that they would be coming back to me faster than I could have ever imagined and ready to go, no matter the issue. “

“I remember our very first encounter at the fall sports administration and coaches meeting when Ross introduced himself and explained his new role at Troy. I was instantly impressed with his confidence, experience, and willingness to become part of us. Everything Ross did at Troy only enhanced those first impressions. As a coach, Ross changed my life. It was an incredible privilege to have his constant support, encouragement, and advice. It was a great burden off my shoulders to eliminate the guesswork of injuries knowing that he, and his students, were there. I learned amazing things about how the body works and heals from Ross. As a parent, Ross brought peace and confidence to our family by knowing that our children were well taken care of at all times. Ross took time with them, checked in on them, encouraged them, and gave them incredible care as an Athletic Trainer. Ross’ knowledge of sport-specific injuries is amazing and the value of having it close to home was priceless. Many times in our community we might hold back from seeking medical care because of distance and cost. Anytime someone was in distress, injury-related or not, the call was always “Where’s Ross. He can fix it.” Having an Athletic Trainer like Ross was a major blessing in our lives and in our community. Ross changed the look of Troy Athletics and Troy High School.”

“Ross has been a great resource for me, answering all my questions and really explaining all the details that go into what he does. I personally was able to trust his ideas and techniques in the weight room and on the sidelines as an Athletic Trainer because of his background and experience as both an athlete and coach. I was very often able to talk to Ross and pick his brain both during practice and outside of sports about how to properly train our student'-athletes.”

“Ross was a great addition to Troy Athletics. It is easy to see that the health and safety of our athletes is always his first priority. While working with Ross our athletes learned how to train safely and perform at a high level. I would like to thank him for his time and effort in our community.”

“Ross was an excellent asset to the Troy School District. During his time at Troy, it was evident that Ross is passionate not only about treating injured athletes but also about best practices regarding injury prevention. I am so grateful for the hours Ross spent working with our athletes while teaching both athletes and coaches about injuries and treatment methods. It was really impressive to me how quickly Ross was able to get our student-athletes back into competition.”
